Careers in Accountancy
School or college leavers starting out in a career in accountancy often begin working as accounts assistants or trainee bookkeepers and study while they earn. Typical qualifications for those starting out are the AAT Accounting Qualification or the CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting.
The on the job experience and knowledge gained through study at a junior level is ideal preparation towards becoming a qualified accountant and allows you to start studying for a full professional qualification such as ACA, ACCA or the CIMA Professional Qualification. Those with or studying towards a professional accounting qualification will typically find work in accounting and audit firms, the banking and finance, the public sector or within commerce and industry.
Once you have completed professional studies by passing final level accountancy qualifications such as TOPCIMA and gained sufficient industry experience, you will achieve Chartered Accountant Status and have opportunities both to earn a high salary and move into senior management positions within a wide range of organisations.
