Careers in Consultancy
Working as a management or organisational consultant requires experience and education. Those working within the consulting industry tend to be graduates at minimum and usually have higher academic or professional education as well. Large consulting firms will recruit from the ranks of the best university graduates and provide them with in house training and a career development path.
However, not all consultants follow this route and professionals from a wide range of business disciplines are able to offer their expertise and experience to help organisations improve and succeed.
While specific technical or business knowledge can be invaluable, consultants also need to have a good understanding of how organisations work and strong interpersonal and communications skills that can help others find solutions to business problems.
An ideal qualification for consultants with some experience or those looking to become a business consultant, is the Diploma in Management Consultancy from the Institute of Business Consultants and the Chartered Management Institute. In order to qualify for this course, you will need to have a degree or have several years of business experience.
